Multani mitti is a mineral-rich clay-like substance that gets its name from its city of origin, Multan in modern day Pakistan. With a texture that’s much finer than clay and with a higher water content, Multani mitti is known for decolorizing oil and other liquids without harsh adverse reactions.

“Fuller’s Earth” is the English name for this clay. Common components found in fuller's earth are montmorillonite, kaolinite, and attapulgite, including small amounts of other minerals like calcite, dolomite, and quartz.

In cosmetology and dermatology, fuller’s earth is effective as a cleanser, removing oil, dirt, and impurities from the skin and also helping treat acne and other skin problem.
